Just like with humans, our favorite furry friends also have an endocannabinoid system. It’s what allows endocannabinoids and cannabinoids to interact with our bodies and the bodies of our cats and dogs. Again, just like with people, CBD isn’t for everyone, but if it does work, CBD pet care can be a life-changing solution.
There are several different reasons people are turning to CBD for pets, including pain, appetite, seizure control, anxiety, stress, inflammation, cancer, and improved quality of life. It's a natural solution that can give your pet relief. CBD is a natural way to treat these conditions. When phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids that come from cannabis), such as cannabidiol (CBD), interact with the with receptors in our bodies, it creates a chemical reaction. Dogs and cats share a similar endocannabinoid system, but most of their receptors are located in their brains.
It’s important to remember that dogs and other pets can react badly to THC, so you want to ensure you have a reliable source for hemp-based CBD, like White Tiger brand. We have a variety of CBD pet treats, including soft chews and pet spray. Both are easy to administer, even with difficult pets.
What Are the Side Effects for Pet Relief thru CBD
Just like with any other medication, CBD for your pets can come with some side-effects. Good news, they are very rare and are usually minor in impact. One of the most common side-effects which you can encounter is drowsiness. If you find that your dog or cat becomes too sleepy or seems over-sedated after consuming CBD pet treats, then simply lower the amount you give them next time. Again, start with small amounts of CBD, and then increase it gradually until you find the best dosage for your pet.
Is CBD Good for My Pet?
It's not ideal for all pets, but it's very likely that it's a safe choice for you. We wrote an article all about the question, is CBD good for pets? and you can learn more about it there.
How much CBD oil should you give your pets?
One of the safest and easiest ways to administer CBD pet treats and CBD oil for pets is to start off slowly and then increase the dosage over time. Start off with the minimum amount recommended, and then see how your pet handles it before you increase the amounts. Just like people, our pets are all different. They are different sizes and will react differently to the same quantity of CBD. What works for one dog, may be completely different for another dog.
What to look for in Products Made for CBD Pet Care
There are certain things you should always look for when you’re choosing CBD pet treats. You want to ensure that the company meets these standards:
- A reputable brand that makes itself available to answer any questions you may have about their CBD products.
- A company that isn’t afraid to publish their lab results.
- And you want full spectrum CBD.
How Does CBD Work on Pets?
All vertebrates share an endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is made up of receptors which endocannabinoids and cannabinoids can bind with. The endocannabinoid system helps to give our nervous system balance, maintaining body and cell homeostasis which control things like memory, pain, inflammation, and carcinogens. Dogs share a similar endocannabinoid system to people, but the receptors in a dog’s endocannabinoid system are more concentrated in the brain. CBD pet treats could be an effective and more affordable alternative to traditional pharmaceutical options.
What Does the Research Show?
As the legalization of cannabis for both medicinal and recreational purposes continues to grow around the world, and especially in the United States, more research is being conducted into the medicinal benefits of hemp and marijuana both for people and their pets. A survey published in the Journal of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association showed that over 50% of the people surveyed believed medical marijuana helped their pets. The study was conducted by the team at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine together with cannabis-treat company Canna Pet. 72% of the people surveyed reported that they had used cannabis products on their dogs, while 16% said they’d used it on their cats.
Colorado State University is currently investigating whether or not CBD could help dogs which are suffering from canine osteoarthritis and epilepsy. During the study, which looked at thirty dogs, the researchers found that ultimately CBD was okay for the dogs. They are moving forward with a more extensive study of almost sixty dogs. CBD oil for pets is still a relatively new solution, so there are still a lot of unknowns. Even though nearly all research is encouraging, it’s important to take things slowly when you first start administering CBD for pet relief.
